The Entryway
The glory of an entryway is that it’s the first impression of your home. Unfortunately for us, this is also the only place where my Peloton fits. Even so, our color choices and personal photos give a feeling of welcome, warmth, and joy upon entering.
When we were looking to buy our home, Nico and I established a set of values for the project. These values established a foundation of decision-making, aiming to guide us through the complex and highly emotional process. We ended up with a sort of mission-statement type thing:
Sanctuary—A place of safety for all to feel welcome, comfortable, and celebrated.
Sanctuary can have a negative connotation, like you’re escaping something (like a pandemic, work, adhering to social norms, etc.), but, for us, this idea is meant to go beyond basic safety. Can we ensure comfort—and not just acceptance, but joyful celebration of ourselves and any guest who enters our home.
As I write this, its obvious now that this is not something you can buy (like a house), but it’s something we aim to create and continue to facilitate for as long as it remains true to us.
