The Mullens’ Engagement Photos
In 2017, Nick and Meg were our first friends to get engaged. I’d met them both in 2015 after they returned to San Francisco after a cycling tour in Australia, and after I had started dating Nico (my now husband). Nico and Nick were roommates in the Inner Richmond.
Nick and Meg were always both warm, fun, and thoughtful. Hanging with them is natural because their presence is welcoming. Meg has always struck me as someone who seems comfortable wherever she is, and instead of it being unnerving—as it so easily could—it makes you feel comfortable too.
I remember very clearly the first night I hung out with Nick. We were out on Haight Street at the Gold Cane, rolling dice and drinking pints. He and Meg had just gotten back from their trip, and I asked him for a highlight. I intended it to be a low-stakes question, small-talk with a new girl his roommate was dating, but he took his time before answering. After a thoughtful moment, he looked back at me with easy earnestness and said, “Feeling closer to Meg.”
